EU Green Week
The European Union Green Week meetings had the theme "Climate change: Act and adapt." I went to sessions all day on reducing GHG emissions through better transport and spatial planning and policy. I went with my couchsurfing hostess, Fiona, who works as an electric car campaigner for Friends if the Earth. The conference was free, including a nice lunch with wine, and took place in several of the EU's seemingly endless supply of well appointed multi-lingual meeting rooms. All the EU meeting rooms are equipped with translation booths, microphones and headphones, so you can follow presenters who speak in their native language. All official meeting minutes are translated into 27 languages! The tone of the presentations and materials being distributed by businesses and governments alike was that climate change is here and we need to adapt to it - the questions of if or how bad weren't really in the discussion, it was really all about strategies for action.
