Today I started house-hunting for August. One prospective landlady harvested an artichoke from her backyard and shared her economic recovery strategy. "The government should give all US adults $1 million. We'd pay off our mortgages and save the banks. Then we'd buy cars and save the auto industry. And we'd pay off our credit cards and send our kids to college." Berkeley-onomics? Considering that the Iraq war costs us about $300 million per day by some estimates, she may be onto something.

Hey, I think you meant $1 million per person, per YEAR, not per day. Still, a pretty staggering figure.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a sweet house!
Nope, one of my former professors calculated the cost of the war as $280 million per DAY in funds approved by Congress, plus an additional $440 million incurred long-term costs, for a total of $720 million each DAY. That's $500,000 per minute.
ReplyDeleteRight, but if by "per person" you mean per US resident…
ReplyDelete$720,000,000 per day / ~300,000,000 U.S. citizens = $2.40 per UC resident per day.
…Trying to get #'s to add up.
